A work of Kitsu-shuu Terasawa,
President of "Nitsu-Shogei" The institute serves wide-ranging students from the beginers to the senior instructors for the educational trainings and the creative activities on Japanese modern calligraphy art. The education is provided by the tutorial training courses in Nagoya,Japan as well as various correspondence courses currently available in Japanese language. More than 320 graduates from the Institute were honoured with the first category certification by the national calligraphy art qualification system in Japan since the Institute was founded by Kitsu-shuu Terasawa in 1983. The results have been very highly recognized. 1. The view and purpose of the modern
calligraphy education of the Institute:
2. The horizontal writing for Japnese calligraphy.(The work as shown above) Kitsu-shuu Terasawa is currently promoting the Japanese calligraphy written from left to right derection instead of the conventional vertical writing from the top to downwards. Japanese characters horizontally written are continuous in harmony with each other and are good to express the beauty of the calligraphy combined with the thoughtfulness of the writer. The new left to right writing of Japanese calligraphy is not only meeting recent habits of Japanese people but would also serve to the introduction of Japanese calligraphy art to the overseas peoples who may have interest in its thoughtful meanings and beauty expressed by writer's own human life philosophy. The horizontal writing method could be more friendly way to the people who use the alphabetic letters. Kitsu-shuu Terasawa teaches the theoretical writing method of the calligraphy, and is introducing the horizontal, from left to right, writing of Japanese characters for the creative calligraphy art combined with the human life philosophy and thoughtfullness of the writer. 3. Commemoration of Tachibana Hayanari. Tachibana Hayanari was one of the three great brush pen calligraphers in the era of early 9th Century. They are Priest Kuukai, Emperor Saga, and Tachibana. Kuukai and Tachibana studied almost same era in China. Tachibana studied calligraphy at the Seimei temple of Xian, China from 809 A.D.of Tan Dynasty era in China, and was honoured with the superior awards and called brilliant Tachibana by the literary artists of Tan Dynasty era. Tachibana however,is not so well known to the peoples in Japan for uncertain reason. Tachibana's great contribution to the calligraphy was his invention of the writing method "Kahou Shutsu Pou" based on the theoretical approach, which later became the fundamental way of writing of Japanese HIRA-KANA, the cursive form of the Japanese syllabary (Kana). The Japanese invention of Hira-Kana(like the alphabets but with 48 letters) was made in later era, and it was very important in Japanese history. Japanese language uses the combination of Hira-Kana(Alphabetical) and Chinese characters(Kanji) in writing, providing unique efficient method for expressions and descriptions. In commemoration of Tachibana Hayanari, this Institute "Nitsu-Shogei"erected the memorial statue for Tachibana at the Tachibana shrine of Mikkabi Town, Shizuoka-ken, Japan, and holds the Japanese calligraphy exhibition every year. Incidentally in 1993, a part of the roof tiles of the Seimei Temple where Tachibana studied was discovered at the present Campus of the Northwest University of Xian, China, by the team of the Chinese Archaeology Association. This institute therefore, erected the golden memorial tower for Tachibana at the Campus of the Northwest University of Xian, China in April, 1998 for the appreciation of Tachibana's contrubution and the friendship of the peoples of Japan and China, in colaboration with other respected supporters.
